Orange you glad you read this newsletter?
I know this may be hard to believe, but I'm not a professional comedian.
Qudits, sensing, hype, forward thinking, entanglement-based quantum networks, randomness, and an unconventional PhD program… there’s something in this week’s edition for everyone… hopefully. So, gather your family and friends around the dinner table or water cooler and enjoy some non-boring quantum news!
Quantum Orange Juice
This post is about the Qudits24 workshops that ended last week, but I have to enthusiastically celebrate the orange juice analogy they used in their wrap up. The key takeaway from the post, though, is to keep Qudits25 on your radar for next year. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
There’s no punchline.
Prof. Michael Biercuk starts with a joke, but there’s no punchline because it’s not a joke and it’s not funny. So, why the heck is it in this newsletter? Because it’s an unconventional way to start a post and I’d like to encourage more of it. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Hype v Reality
Matthias Wolff of Quantagonia makes the cut thanks to the illustration accompanying his post. They say a picture is worth a thousand words, so I’m assessing this one at precisely 990 words since 10 words are embedded within the image. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
A Quantum Crystal Ball
This post by Quantum Flagship isn’t actually about charlatans feigning clairvoyance, but it does include an animation that offers a glimpse into Europe’s potential future using quantum technologies. If you have 1:47 to spare, check it out. This link might require a LinkedIn account, though.
Freelancers Still Available!
In case you’re wondering, yes! The freelancers I have alluded to in previous editions of The Quantum Dragon are indeed still available. One is a Virtual Assistant with call center experience and the other is a Python/C++ Programmer. If either requires a crash course on quantum computing, I’m sure I can point them in the right direction.
Pretty in Pink
Qunnect celebrated the successful installation of their Gotham Rack — a name which alone deserves inclusion in this newsletter — at a customer's location, establishing an entanglement network. I couldn’t help noticing that it’s black and pink. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
”Good” Randomness vs “Bad” Randomness
Laurent Prost offers up an illustrated explanation of quantum randomness. I’m awarding admittedly-worthless bonus points for his lottery analogy. I’m awarding even more admittedly-worthless bonus points for linking to a GitHub repository with code to replicate the illustrated example. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
A different kind of PhD…
The PhD Quantum Computing in the Arts, Music and Humanities is run by the University of Plymouth’s School of Art, Design and Architecture, so you don’t need a background in physics, mathematics, engineering, or computer science to apply. In fact, you can be an artist like Steve Rogers (Captain America).
