The Quantum Dragon is in a state of quantum superposition this week, but what the heck does that mean? If you don’t know, you’re soon to encounter a video in which you can listen to Prof. Seth Lloyd, one of the legitimate pioneers of quantum computing, explain it for general audiences.
Quantum Econophysics
Economics + physics may or may not be entertaining, but I’ve never heard of the field before, so that at least makes it interesting. Brian Otieno recommends "Quantum Chemistry and Computing for the Curious" by Alain Chancé and Dr. Keeper Layne Sharkey, which I have heard of before. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Quantum Security and Defense Working Group
Unless you’re already familiar with it, Mark McGuire introduces us to the Quantum Security and Defense Working Group. At a minimum, the logo is worth sharing. It invokes a feline security guard. And the self-deprecating humor is a nice bonus. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Quantum Computing: Hype vs. Reality
Thanks to Alex Khan for sharing this World Science Festival discussion between Dr. Brian Greene and Prof. Seth Lloyd. I could share this video just for the visualizations, but it also made me chuckle a few times, and that means that I’m obligated to share it. Those are the rules, sorry, and I can’t argue with them (even though I made them).
Hilbert spaces
I don’t know why I find this funny, but I do. The presentation suggests to me that the definition ought to be understandable by general audiences, but it definitely isn’t. But it looks like it should be, and that’s somehow hilarious. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Quantum Tea Time
Thanks to Prof. Chris Ferrie for sharing this short story by Prof. Teiko Heinosaari. It seems to be promoting an actual upcoming event called “Five O’Clock Quantum Tea” at Teeleidi, “an atmospheric tea room located in a 100-year-old beautiful building in Jyväskylä.” This link might require a LinkedIn account.
“Please, sir, I want some more.”
- PsiQuantum
PsiQuantum needs even more money!
Thanks to Daniel Van Boom for this one. According to Crunchbase, PsiQuantum has raised $1.3B. Despite $940M from Australia and $760M in US tax incentives in 2024 alone, I still don’t know anyone who claims that PsiQuantum has anything more than diddly squat. It’s sad, but someone somewhere is laughing.
A Rant About QKD
I have to include this article by Mark McGuire because of the image of an empty wallet. That seems like something I would do. I also appreciate the trip down memory lane. Mark might not be old enough to remember the early Internet, but I’m old enough to have forgotten the early Internet.
Because atoms are…
Thanks to Mauro Mendizabal for this one. I’d wear this t-shirt even though PASQAL won’t let me play with their atoms. I’d wear it more if they let me play with their atoms, but that’s neither here nor there. I don’t have this t-shirt, so it’s a moot point. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
