I’m horribly unimaginative, so I just can’t seem to think up a title and subtitle for this week’s newsletter. If only there was some way for me to boost my creativity….
Art-Science Projects to Explore Quantum Creativity
Thanks to Alex Khan for this one. Quantum researchers will be collaborating with artists to help explain counterintuitive concepts. But that’s not all. These projects are funded. The 7 awards will total $54,650, with 3 of the awards at $10,000. I see dance, sculpture, storytelling, music, and poetry in the titles.
Quantum is closer than it appears
When will quantum computers start breaking RSA cryptography? Karl Holmqvist of Lastwall provides 5 non-scaremongering reasons why — like objects in a side mirror — this day may be closer than it appears. He also offers insights on the scope and the cost of implementing post-quantum cryptography (PQC).
Meme Contest
I was going to include Sergio Gago’s 198th edition of Quantum Pirates just for the 42 and little piggie references, but the meme contest has to take top billing. That’s quite a compliment considering how often I use the 42 reference myself. Anyway, click on the link to see all the details… but do it quickly. The contest ends in just 2 weeks!
Monthly Quantum Myth
I don’t have a link for this because it was emailed, but QuantumBasel has started — or I’ve missed it until now — addressing a different quantum myth each month. This month’s myth is "Quantum computers will make all calculations faster." They work with IonQ and D-Wave, so they certainly know about myths.
Shadow Deposition
I’m not going to pretend to know anything about Josephson junction fabrication, but you can watch this animation and then you can ask Onri Jay Benally about it. This link might require a LinkedIn account. He’s got another amazing animation here, and a bunch of hardware videos on Sanjay Vishwakarma’s QuantumGrad site.
Recommended!
I’ve been a fan of Dr. Sutor since before you were in diapers. No, I obviously don’t know how old you are, but I’ve been a fan of his for years, anyway, so this is a huge honor. For the record, I don’t just recommend Dr. Bob Sutor – Quantum and AI; I recommend everything by Dr. Sutor. Looking for a good book?
