In response to Google’s whitepaper revealing a 20-fold reduction in the resources needed to break the encryption protecting Bitcoin and other digital assets, thus dramatically shortening the readiness deadline for “Q Day,” Denis Mandich, former CIA, now CTO and Co-Founder of Qrypt commented (paraphrased):
Foreign nation-states aren’t waiting for 2029. Google’s news is a confirmation that our 1970s-era “key transmission” architecture has already failed.
Over 2 million Bitcoins and 20 million ETH have exposed public keys. Nation-states aren’t waiting for 2029 to attack; they are likely “harvesting” these keys now to decrypt them the millisecond a quantum computer goes live.
The ‘Harvest Now, Decrypt Later’ strategy means the biggest data breach in history has already happened—we just haven’t felt the impact yet.
