If you ever have the opportunity to spend a weekend watching the 1966 Batman movie and 1987’s The Princess Bride, seize it with gusto. In the meantime, get your can of shark repellant bat spray ready, pick up a large rock, and enjoy this week’s edition of The Quantum Dragon.
Because I’m Batman.
I appreciate evolutionQ giving me the opportunity to finally use a Batman analogy. If you think about it, he’s actually a very relatable superhero. He’s simply playing chess, thinking several moves ahead for his opponent and then for himself. He prepares himself for every possible contingency, which is why he’s ready for all of them.
Quantum Leapfrogging
I’m not critiquing the article this post is referencing, I’m simply applauding Michel Kurek’s use of an AI-generated “leapfrog.” That said, I have personally used tensor networks to simulate quantum circuits that are supposedly too large to be simulated classically. It’s a real slobberknocker.
I am thoroughly enjoying the public back-and-forth between Q-CTRL’s CEO, Prof. Biercuk, and whoever is fabricating D-Wave’s responses. I’ve used Q-CTRL’s Fire Opal and always been impressed, and I’ve used D-Wave’s annealers and always been disappointed. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
The Princess Bride
I’m not critiquing 99% of this TQI newsletter, nor its writing style, but if they’re going to include an image of Andre the Giant in The Princess Bride, I simply have no choice but to link to it. I’d give bonus points for “yada yada yada,” but including Andre already gives maximum points. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Wondering with Qubits
Imagine a child being able to play with a qubit as a musical instrument. After that’s clear in your mind, you can watch a six-second video of it actually happening. And this is just one of the many fascinating things in quantum music that Prof. Eduardo Miranda is working on at any given time. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
A Thermodynamics Meme
You can’t go wrong using a Thanos meme. You also can’t miss appearing in this newsletter if you’re going to do that. I invoked Thanos for an article recently, and he just works. This link might require both a LinkedIn account and membership in the private Quantum Physics group.
Prepare for a broadside!
This is the second-greatest edition of Quantum Pirates. Nothing will ever beat the Risitas edition, but this edition has something you don’t normally find in newsletters: conflict. Conflict is what makes a story worth reading, or, in this case, two stories derived from social media exchanges. Bonus points for the D&D alignment reference.
Forest office
When we talk about quantum we’re talking about nature. Dr. Johannes Greiner has really embraced the spirit of this and has apparently started borrowing office space, at least part of the time, from Mother Nature herself. If I could get a signal, this makes me want to work from a dive boat. This link might require a LinkedIn account.
Freelancers Available
This edition of The Quantum Dragon is sponsored by… me! I know a freelance Virtual Assistant and a freelance Python/C++ Programmer who are looking for some work. If you’d like to be connected to either or both of them, and/or if you’d like to sponsor a future edition of The Quantum Dragon, please let me know.
The Superposition Guy’s Podcast
I’ve listened to this podcast more than any other podcast, quantum or otherwise. I even listened to it back when it was The Qubit Guy’s Podcast. I’ve even been a guest on the podcast. And with all that is mind, I must say that Yuval’s interview of Nardo Manaloto is unusually interesting.
Charlie and the Quantum Factory
This is the only quantum game I know of that starts with a beer reference. And when I say it starts with a beer reference, I mean it literally starts with a beer reference. There’s a hint of cryptography in this game, and it culminates with [SPOILER]. It could be a fun, unique diversion from your daily grind.
Your Washington Office
Washington Office provides strategic communications, business development, and government relations for tech companies, including quantum computing companies. More importantly, for purposes of this newsletter, they provide an absolutely legendary website. I am humbled by their creativity.
