WHEREAS, in early May, 2024, I had trial access to Alice & Bob’s Boson 4 chip, which features a single cat qubit;
WHEREAS, Alice & Bob had not yet announced Boson 4’s 430-second bit-flip lifetime;
WHEREAS, superconducting qubit lifetimes are measured in microseconds, so I began by setting the delay to microseconds;
WHEREAS, I then set the delay to 10s of microseconds;
WHEREAS, I then set the delay to 100s of microseconds;
WHEREAS, I then set the delay to milliseconds;
WHEREAS, I then set the delay to 10s of milliseconds;
WHEREAS, I then set the delay to 100s of milliseconds;
WHEREAS, I then set the delay to seconds;
WHEREAS, I ran out of patience, tapped out, and formally conceded to the Alice & Bob team that they had won;
WHEREAS, on May 24, 2024, Inside Quantum Techology published “The ‘Colossus’ Qubit,” a more detailed account of my ordeal;
WHEREAS, you don’t have to take my word for it and can experiment with Boson 4 for free on Google Cloud;
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Brian Siegelwax, with the power vested in me by absolutely nobody, do hereby proclaim Boson 4 the second recipient of The Dracarys Award.
IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Seal of The Quantum Dragon to be affixed this January 1, 2025.
